Facebook
Chrome OS app store?
Apps are an enormous growth market and a great way to make a buck or two. So now Google is ready to get into the game with its App Marketplace for Cloud based apps!
Google has just announced the launch of its app shop. The shop will target Google’s massive user base of 25.000.000 people, most of whom already use quite a few free Google Apps. Over 50 companies have partnered with Google by launching their enterprise applications at Google App Marketplace.
This opens a whole new world of possible profits for third party developers, as the app store only charges a $100 to join and then takes 20% of the sale of any app. Yep, that’s a lot better than adsense! 20% is still a lot of money, but it means you could make a whole lot of money. No wonder then that developers are falling over themselves to join up. Another clever move by Google.
The fact that it’s a cloud based app store is another nice move, as with the launch of Chrome OS Google would have a ready made app store and can really start kicking some Apple (app store) butt.
Google Chrome netbooks could cost more than Windows netbooks

You would think that installing a zero cost operating system on a netbook would help keep the price low. But while there’s no licensing fee associated with Google’s upcoming Chrome OS, it turns out that netbooks running Chrome OS might actually be more expensive than the cheap, ubiquitous Windows netbooks flooding the market today.
That’s because Google has outlined firm hardware requirements for Chrome OS netbooks. While the company hasn’t publicly announced those requirements, we already know that Google expects Chrome OS netbooks to have “high resolution” displays and there’s a rumor going around that Google is working on its own netbook with a 64GB SSD and integrated 3G modem. And that kind of hardware doesn’t come cheap. And it’s possible those hardware requirements could drive up the cost of these netbooks to the point where it’s actually cheaper to get a Windows netbook — which is capable of running thousands of apps that won’t run on Chrome OS, and all the web-based apps that will be included in Chrome.
Parallels announces support for Google Chrome OS
Parallels, a provider of cloud services automation and virtualisation software, has announced support for Google Chrome as a guest operating system running on Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac.
The software allows users, currently around 2 million of them, to run Windows, Linux and other operating systems side-by-side with Mac OS X. The ability to run Google Chrome OS on Parallels Desktop for Mac is being demonstrated this week at the OS X Business Park at CeBIT in Germany, which runs until Saturday.
Question of the day!
"There is already a huge amount of interest in Google’s new OS, even though it’s still just in beta, so we want to make sure our customers can try it out on their Macs without impacting their primary work environment on Mac OS X," said Kim Johnston, Vice President of Marketing for Consumer, Business and Online at Parallels.
"It’s important to us that we continue to innovate to meet our customers’ needs, giving them the ability to use the broadest range of applications possible, whether on Mac, Windows, Linux or Chrome operating systems."
